Yep, I had the same problems, along with the categories not populating the dropdown when posting. I was using a Joomlart template. Tried it with an RT template and it worked fine, except for the IE problems...
Very disappointing. They're not even testing their extensions before releasing them.

Joomla supports RSS out of the box. You need to activate the module (default one provided) which will then allow your articles to be in the feed. It's not that great and general and vagueness of the default has spawned many plugins that can be tailored to your needs so look around on joomla.org. You can virtually find anything plugin wise for Joomla and even ones that replace core features in a better way for specific people.

My biggest complaint with Joomla in this area is that Wordpress does syndication of your site or even bringing in other feeds as articles from third parties easy as pie out of box. Wordpress is better and by a huge margin in this area and to get a similar amount of control and function you need plugins for Joomla and maybe even setup cron jobs (uugh).
